Background
Thanks to the iniative of the Cultural Delegation of the
Archdiocese of Bogotá, in 1996 the program “Music
in the Churches” was created, with financial support
from the City of Bogotá Mayor´s Office and
the Colombian Ministry of Culture, with the cooperation
of the National University of Colombia. Its purpose is
to gather people around music in churches, as a symbol
of human brotherhood.
Mission
“Music in the Churches” Foundation is a nonprofit organization
which encourages civility among a growing audience, through
music and other cultural expressions of the highest possible
quality that have a high impact in the community.
Vision
“Music in the Churches” Foundation expects to be a leader
of its kind within the next five years, in Bogotá and
other cities of Colombia, and to be an ongoing example of
the culture it wishes to spread.
Objectives

To promote the principles of solidarity and social commitment
through music and other astistic expressions.

To strengthen respect and solidarity which should lead toward
the achievement
of civility within the different communities.

Accomplishments

1996: 91 concerts held in 50 parishes.
- 1997: 256 concerts, 20 choirs formed and 16 theater performances.
- 1998: 196 concerts, 25 choral workshops and 8 theater
performances.
- 1999: 213 concerts and 30 choral workshops.
- 2000: 127 concerts and 35 choral workshops.
- 2001: 96 concerts and 15 choral workshops.
- 2002: 50 concerts and 11 choral workshops.
Activities
The management, together with the support of administrative
personnel, clergy, and highly motivated volunteers, make
it possible for these activities to be available throughout
the city:

- HOLY WEEK SEASON
- CHRISTMAS SEASON
- THEATER PERFORMANCES
One of the Foundation's priorities has been the musical
and choral education given through permanent workshops, as
a first step toward the formation of one thousand choirs
for the new millenium.
The churches are everyone's home and a universal symbol
of human brotherhood.
